Books for Valentine's Day

Are you looking for a romantic read for Valentine's Day?  Here are some books which are guaranteed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and maybe some other things, too:

Anna and the French Kiss
by Stephanie Perkins

This is one of the best recent contemporary romances.  It's natural and realistic and cute and funny.  If you haven't read this book, Valentine's Day would be the perfect time to do so.  And if you have, it might be the perfect time to reread it or to suggest it to a friend who is in need of a romantic setting and some awkward teenage love.

Pride and Prejudice
by Jane Austen

Do I really need to explain this one?  Pride and Prejudice is one of the best romances ever.  Jane Austen's wit is addicting and fulfilling.  Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are such amazing, flawed, wonderful characters.  If you're one of those people who have always been meaning to pick up an Austen novel, you should do it.  Now.  Any book by Austen would fit into a romantic Valentine's Day theme and will still offer a lot more than just romance.  Some of my other favorites of hers are Emma and Northanger Abbey.

Sarah Dessen books

Sarah Dessen is another author with whom you can't really go wrong if you're looking for romances with great characters and stories with depth.  I couldn't narrow this one down to just one book, so I chose a box set.

The Lover's Dictionary
by David Levithan

What could be a more appropriate Valentine's Day read for a bibliophile than a 'sweet and touching modern love story' told in the form of dictionary entries?

  3. I have yet to read Sarah Dessen. I'm a bad YA reader. I will someday soon. I should re-read Anna and the FK. It was so wonderful.

  4. Awesome list. I love how you just made a Sarah Dessen category, instead of putting down a specific book. All her novels are fantastic.
