Keek’s life was totally perfect.This looks like it will be a great summer book. It's always fun when characters are removed from their accustomed surroundings. And I love that her comforts are a book and a typewriter! The cover on this one is kinda cute and different, as well. I like the sort of whimsy of it.
Keek and her boyfriend just had their Worst Fight Ever, her best friend heinously betrayed her, her parents are divorcing, and her mom’s across the country caring for her newborn cousin, who may or may not make it home from the hospital. To top it all off, Keek’s got the plague. (Well, the chicken pox.) Now she’s holed up at her grandmother’s technologically-barren house until further notice. Not quite the summer vacation Keek had in mind.
With only an old typewriter and Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar for solace and guidance, Keek’s alone with her swirling thoughts. But one thing’s clear through her feverish haze—she’s got to figure out why things went wrong so she can put them right.

This books looks cute and quirky. I think I would pick it up solely due to the fact that the main character's name is Keek. :)

I enjoy books that are contemplative and this one sounds like it will also includes a lot of flashback. Great pick!

ReplyDeleteI really agree with you-it's always nice to read about how a main character is removed from what she's accustomed to and slowly starts adjusting to a new environment! The character growth is usually very satisfying (:

woah! The chicken pox that late? And wow that girl goes through a lot! I agree with you about the cover. I don't know if Sylvia Plath's Bell Jar is the best book to have when you're feeling that down :O, but sounds like Keek will pull through. Thanks for sharing this one! Hadn't heard of it until now!
