What is your reading suggestion this week?
What is your reading suggestion this week?
It is so hard to choose just one! Tons of new YA came out this week. I'm going to go with Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. I've been on a historical fiction kick. I haven't been able to read it yet, but it looks pretty cool.

This week's question:
When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move on to another title?
Welcome to all of the new faces, and welcome back to the old ones!
Here is some of what has been going on at my blog this past week:

When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move on to another title?
I guess it depends on how much I'm not feeling what I'm reading and on which books I have waiting in the to-read pile. I usually at least try to push forward and finish a book. There aren't many that I cannot finish. However, if I've given a book a couple of fair chances and I still cannot stay interested in it, I will switch to one of the books from the stack. I always have the intention to (and almost always do) go back and finish the first book again at a later date. This does not really happen to me as much as it used to, because with all of the online resources that are at our disposal, such as the book blogosphere and sites like Goodreads & Amazon, I am able to do enough research on a book to know beforehand if it is something that I will probably like, and to avoid the ones that are unlikely to appeal to me. I also think that it is important, when accepting a book for review, to be discerning.

I totally understand the whole "pushing through" to get to the end. I do the same thing.. if I DNF a book, it make me feel incredibly guilty. There have only been about 3 this year that I wasn't able to finish.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower, stopping by from BBH/FF! Have a great weekend :)
Visiting from the hop and am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any issues walking away from a book, why read if you are miserable? :)
Just hopping by! Like you, I rarely find a book I don't like, so I don't generally have a problem finishing what I start!!
ReplyDeleteRevolution does look good. I have it on my TBR list! Hope you have a great weekend! I'm a new follower - your site is interesting AND gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteAh yes, goodreads and amazon are amazing for pre-reading research! :D You still sometimes pick up a book that loads of people think is great and find it rubbish though!

ReplyDeleteJust hoppin’ on by <3 I'm an old follower :)
ReplyDeleteI usually stick books out, even if it annoys me like crazy. I like giving fair chances to books, and I feel incomplete if I don’t finish it. I’ve even stuck it through an entire series I absolutely hated. Maybe it’s just me being weird.

ReplyDeleteChrystal: The pink ribbon is there in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I wear the breast cancer awareness ribbon on my blog in honor of a good friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She had to have a bilateral mastectomy and just completed her chemotherapy last week.
Happy HOP :) If I'm not feeling a connection and it seems like the timing is off I stop with the intent of coming back later. i really believe there is a book for every occassion and that that forcing to read something is more a chore than something enjoyable. With the books I've been asked to review, there's only been one book I couldn't finish and OMG I tried so hard to do read it but in the end I felt sick and felt if I kept going I'd end up hating it. I'd rather wait til I'm in a better space than push through. Just my two cents worth.
ReplyDeleteCome HOP by and visit
Hopping for the first time! Like you, I do a lot of "research" before I ever decide to read a book in the first place...there are so many books out there available to read for everyone, so I try to stay focused on the ones that really appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteFound you on FF, I'm a newcomer and I'm really enjoying visiting the blogs and following too. I'm your newest follower, I hope you'll follow back :) You have a great blog! Happy Weekend!
