Favorite Covers: April 2011

Each month I feature some of my favorite covers from that month's new releases or re-releases and explain why I think those particular covers are so amazing.

Here are some of my favorite covers for April 2011:

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
Why I love it:

I always love the covers for her books.  I love the drama of them.  I like the color schemes, the lighting, the added artistic brush effects, all of it.  This one is no different.  I also like that it has Clary and Simon on it.  BFFs!  And Simon has a quiver of arrows on his back.  You go, Simon!  Just because you're stuck in the friend zone doesn't mean you can't be a badass.  Rawr!

Eona by Alison Goodman
Why I love it:

What's not to love?  A kickass girl with some serious weaponry, mad skills and a dragon in the background, with a crap ton of cavalry charging at her like they want to eat her face off.  And all the while she's smiling back at me like I'm in on some fun little secret.  The colors are dark enough to make the whole situation seem sinister.  Awesome.

The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter
Why I love it:

I love green!  The lush vegetation on this cover is awesome. It makes the girl in the center really stand out.  I like her Greek-inspired clothing and her relaxed pose.  I love the title font, too, right down to the Sigmas used for the E's.  The brush patterns surrounding the lettering is beautiful, and I also really like the patterns added into the two corners.

Bumped by Megan McCafferty
Why I love it:

I am really digging the simplicity of this cover!  I love the white as a backdrop for the shadowy egg just sitting there right side up.  I like the shadow at the bottom and the fact that they kept it mostly monochrome by using white for the title.  And I love the fact that they curved the title as though it is written on the surface of the egg.  I also think that it was smart to do the rest of the type in pink and to place it at the top and bottom in plain fonts that frame the cover and also make it a little more eye-catching without drawing any attention away from it.

How much do you love the covers of the books that are coming out this month?  Are there any April releases that are destined to become beautiful new additions to your bookshelf?
